Primary Swimming International School City Championships 2013 - Starting Procedures, Stroke, Turn and Race Finish.

Starting Procedures

o   Please assist the starter by ensuring there is quiet at the start of each race.

o   All races will start in the deep end. The forward start may be taken from the starting block, the pool deck or as a push from the wall. The starter shall direct swimmers to assume a position with at least one foot at the front of the block, the edge of the pool deck or, if in the water, on the wall. Those in the water must also have at least one hand in contact with the wall or any part of the starting block. On the starter's command, "Take Your Marks", there shall be no forward step. Swimmers will go on the starter’s electronic beep.

o   In the event of a false start, there will be short, persistent beeps and the race will be restarted. Swimmers with 2 false starts will be disqualified.

o   In a relay, the swimmer approaching the wall must not be impeded, touched or assisted by the swimmer entering the water. If contact is made the team will be disqualified.

o   Backstroke and Medley Relay events shall start with swimmers in the water facing the starting end and with both hands resting on the end of the pool or on any part of the starting block or platform. Both feet, including the toes, shall be under water.

Stroke, Turn and Race Finish

o   Competitors must stay in the water at the end of each race until they are dismissed by the chief time keeper. This is to ensure that the results are accurate etc.

o   All starts, turns, finishes and change-overs for relays must be legal. If not swimmers will be disqualified.

o   Two handed touch for breaststroke and butterfly, if hands to not touch concurrently, swimmers will be disqualified.

o   Team Medley Order: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle.

o   The judge’s decision is final.
